What is Dysport® at West Asheville Aesthetics?
Dysport® is an FDA-approved injectable that temporarily softens moderate-to-severe frown lines between the eyebrows. Like BOTOX® Cosmetic, it works by relaxing the underlying muscle to reduce contraction and smooth wrinkles. Dysport is made from a neurotoxin produced by Clostridium botulinum, the same one used in BOTOX.
Uses for Dysport®
Medically, Dysport treats issues like excessive underarm sweating, cervical dystonia (neck pain and abnormal head position), and muscle spasms. Cosmetically, Dysport is commonly used to treat:
- Forehead lines
- Frown lines
- Crow’s feet
- Neck bands
- Chin dimpling
- Jowling
Procedure and Results
Dysport is injected into facial muscles using a fine needle, and anesthesia is usually not needed. Results are visible within days and typically last up to three to four months, with longevity potentially increasing with regular treatments. Only qualified professionals should administer Dysport.
Who is a Good Candidate?
Dysport is for adults seeking a temporary reduction in lines and wrinkles. It may not be suitable for those with allergies to its ingredients, recent facial surgery, weak facial muscles, or specific skin conditions. Pregnant or breastfeeding individuals and those with neuromuscular diseases should avoid Dysport.
Dysport vs. BOTOX Cosmetic
Both products derive from the same neurotoxin. Dysport may have advantages due to the protein bind used, such as longer duration, faster onset, and broader spread, though results vary.
Side Effects
Side effects are generally mild and temporary, including pain, swelling, redness, and bruising at the injection site. Drooping eyelids or brows may occur, although rare, but typically resolve within three weeks. Side effects are similar to those of BOTOX.
